Renee + Michael
APRIL 19, 2024
Michael and I became friends in 1987 while in college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We were reconnected 30+ years later by one of my daughters (Kristen Wilhoit) who was working at a senior living community where Michael was looking for a new apartment for his mother when they met. Having both been down this road twice before, neither one of us were looking to date any more, or get married. But God had a different plan for Michael and I.
Michael was a bachelor with no kids. I was a single mother of 3 adult girls, a grandmother of 5, and on a journey I would not want anyone new to be a part of. I had been diagnosed with severe lung disease caused by a genetic disorder and was given a life expectancy of approximately 5 years without augmentation therapy, and possibly 10-15 years with weekly infusions and a potential for double lung transplants. I have gone to weekly infusions for the last 10 years and have learned to live with this condition and still love life!
With the foundation of friendship built so many years ago, Michael and I never knew what that bond would lead to today. Our love has shown us that God truly does push us to love, and that we are all worthy of love, no matter what circumstances lie ahead or behind us! We are forever grateful for His intervention in both of our lives, and so happy to blend our beautiful families.
