Dr. Emily Nicole Chan and Dr. Austin Edward Michels married on March 23, 2024 in Wilmington, North Carolina at Wrightsville Manor. Austin was born in Greenville, NC. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and NC State, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Emily hails from Newton, MA and graduated from Hamilton College with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience.
The pair met during dental school at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating with their Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees, they moved to Wendell Falls with their two maltese. Emily and Austin work as general dentists in Clayton and Louisburg, respectively.
On wedding day, guests were greeted with a gold mirror welcome sign and a champagne wall. A string quartet played in the background as guests took their seats. Emily walked down the aisle to “Halo” by Beyoncé, in a dress by Truvelle.
Food was the most important aspect of the wedding to Emily, as she built the Instagram account @bostonfoodgram with over 100,000 followers. At cocktail hour, there was a raw bar with two live oyster shuckers, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, and a charcuterie table. A dental-themed escort display read “Extract your tooth”. Clear acrylic teeth hung on hooks, each with the guest’s name and table.
At the reception inside Wrightsville Manor, floral arrangements adorned the tables and above the mantle. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal and a margarita bar. Martin from Active DJ created an electric vibe on the dance floor—everyone danced the night away!
